Getting Started

Install Trackself, finish onboarding, and start your first timer from the desktop app.

Getting Started

Desktop tracker view with quick entry and active time capture.

Installation

Trackself is available for Linux, macOS, and Windows.

  • Linux: Install via Snap Store (snap install trackself)
  • macOS: Download from the Mac App Store or directly from trackself.io
  • Windows: Download the MSIX installer from trackself.io

First Launch

When you open Trackself for the first time, a short onboarding walkthrough guides you through the basics. It takes about a minute and covers:

  1. The quick entry field — where you type to start tracking
  2. The @ categorization system — how to organize your tasks
  3. The menu — where to find settings, sync, integrations, and export

You can skip the onboarding at any time if you'd rather explore on your own. To replay it later, open the menu and select Replay Onboarding.

Your First Tracked Task

  1. Click the text field at the top of the tracker screen.
  2. Type a task name — for example, Email@reply to team.
  3. Press Enter or click Start tracking.

That's it — you're tracking! A live timer appears showing how long you've been at it.

To stop tracking, click the Stop button or start a new task (which automatically stops the previous one).

Active tracking

A running timer and current task stay visible in the desktop app.

The Main Screen

The tracker screen is your home base. It shows:

  • Quick entry field at the top — type here to start or search for tasks
  • Activity list below — your tracked entries, grouped by date
  • Menu button (bottom-right) — access settings, sync, integrations, export, and more

Each entry in the activity list shows the task name, start/end times, and duration. Click any entry to edit it.
