Creating New Personal Access When One Already Exists

Understand the warning shown when a device finds an existing Personal Access and you try to create a new one.

If Trackself detects that your account already has saved access methods, it may warn you before creating a new Personal Access setup.

For most users, the choice means this:

  • Use access method: connect this device to the same protected data you already use on another device
  • Create New Personal Access: start a different Personal Access on this device

What The Warning Means

If you continue with Create New Personal Access, this device starts using a new Personal Access key.

Protected entries created under the older Personal Access can stay locked on this device until you unlock the older access method again.

This does not necessarily mean your old data is lost. It usually means this device is using the new Personal Access and does not currently have the older one unlocked.

What Most Users Should Do

If you already use Trackself with Data Protection on another device and you want this device to read the same protected data, choose Use access method.

Use Create New Personal Access only if you intentionally want to start a separate Personal Access setup.

How To Use The Existing Access Instead

There is no separate "restore original access" wizard. The user-facing flow is:

  1. Open the menu and go to Privacy & Sync.
  2. Open Access Settings.
  3. Click Use access method.
  4. Enter the original Access Code or Access Password that you already use on another device.
  5. Finish the unlock flow.

Trackself then tries to unlock the existing Personal Access from the server or from Shared Folder Sync.

If the original access method is still available, previously locked protected entries can become readable again on this device.

Existing access found

Use the existing access method when this device should read the same protected data.

When You Should Choose Each Option

Choose Use access method if:

  • You already set up Data Protection on another device
  • You still have the original Access Code or Access Password
  • You want this device to read existing protected data

Choose Create New Personal Access only if:

  • You intentionally want a brand new Personal Access setup on this device
  • You understand that older protected data may stay locked until the original access method is unlocked again

If You No Longer Have The Original Access Method

If you created a new Personal Access and no longer have the original Access Code, Access Password, or another device that still has the original access unlocked, Trackself cannot recover the older protected data for you.

There is no password-reset style bypass for encrypted content.

Separate access warning

Creating a new Personal Access can leave older protected entries locked on this device.

Before You Click "Create New Personal Access"

  1. Try Use access method first.
  2. Confirm that your older protected entries are readable on this device.
  3. Only then choose Create New Personal Access if starting a separate Personal Access is your actual goal.
